Julep Maven: December 2016: This Way to the Soirée

In my game of review catch-up, today’s lineup has Julep’s This Way to the Soirée December collection which included a bunch of new matte lip shades. Despite my overflowing makeup box, I don’t have many matte lip products so I was excited to nab a few in my box.  If you’d like to try out Julep for yourself, be sure to check out the coupons and offers below.

It’s Whipped – Pillow Talk – Matte Lip Mousse

(Retail $20.00/Maven Price: $16.00)
Verdict: So close to perfect
Description: “A weightless matte lip color that lasts all day and never feels dry. A super-pigmented formula provides saturated color for up to 12 hours of comfortable wear.”
Color: “Victorian Pink Matte”
I’ve been searching for a great everyday pink – something to pair with a simple cat eye. This color was almost perfect, it leans just a touch too yellow for my complexion.  The formula is great though and goes on matte without over-drying your lips.  I don’t get 12 hours out of it, but it’s definitely more durable than a lot of my other lip products.

It’s Whipped – Pillow Talk – Matte Lip Mousse

(Retail $20.00/Maven Price: $16.00)
Verdict: Hit!
Description: “A weightless matte lip color that lasts all day and never feels dry. A super-pigmented formula provides saturated color for up to 12 hours of comfortable wear.”
Color: “Femme Fuchsia Matte”
I thought I’d take a chance on this one and it is so much lovelier in person than on the screen.  It’s a saturated shade that can go glam or laid back.  I also think it would work well for a variety of skin tones.

Holographic Shatter Stickers
(Retail $???/Maven Price: $???)
Verdict: Hit!
These aren’t available for individual purchase so I couldn’t link them or give you a price.  I thought they looked really fun and something I could use with my jelly polishes for some interesting looks.

Verdict: Like!
While I still haven’t found the perfect everyday matte lip shade, I still thought the lip products were quite nice.  As I mentioned, Julep has a really great formula and I hope they continue to make more shades.  The shatter stickers are fun and great for folks who aren’t adept at nail art, but still want to try something different.  Excluding the cost of the shatter stickers, the retail value of this box was $40 and the maven value was $32.  I paid $21.39 and I think I got my money’s worth.  Even excluding the stickers, that’s like paying $10 per lip product, which is basically akin to drugstore pricing  Personally, I feel the “It’s Whipped” products have superior packaging and formula to  anything I can find in my local Rite Aid.

Once upon a time, long, long ago, Lisa attended Syracuse University where she studied singing in a giant castle surrounded by ice and snow. After she earned her music degree, she headed to the island of Manhattan, down to the West Village, to a place called the New School. There, she earned another degree in the great art of writing stories for children. She currently works on that same island, in the dungeon of an old building, making up stories while she sorts through endless stacks of papers, just dreaming of living somewhere with windows. She is currently working on several novels and hopes to write her way to that aforementioned windowed place. Her first book, “The Ice Maiden’s Tale,” is set to be released May 30, 2017 by Xist Publishing. In the meantime, she keeps herself occupied by obsessing over subscription boxes and home renovations.
